Dr. Jonathan Pullin's Bio

Dr. Pullin grew up in Fayetteville, North Carolina and graduated from Terry Sanford High School.

 

He received his undergraduate degree from the University of North Carolina at Asheville with a specialization in Environmental Chemistry. Dr. received his Master’s degree from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill with a major in Environmental Chemistry.  His Master’s thesis is entitled “Chemical Mechanistic Studies Related to the Application of Ozone in Drinking Water Treatment”. He is a student of Dr. William H. Glaze and his work is currently being used at several universities across the United States as basic research in the field of water quality. Dr. Pullin earned his doctoral degree from Gardner-Webb University in Curriculum and Instruction. His dissertation, which is focused on Charter Schools, is entitled “A Mixed-Methods Study of Parental Choice and Heuristics of First-Time Kindergarten Parents”. He has more than 8 years of classroom instruction experience and more than 5 years in K-12 school administration.

 

Dr. Pullin is licensed by the North Carolina Department of Public Instruction as aK-12 School Administrator and as a Curriculum Instruction Specialist.

 

Dr. Pullin is also a graduate of Leadership Charlotte, Class 41. He has been trained as an Executive Manager by Duke University, Dartmouth College, UNC-Chapel Hill and the State of North Carolina.

 

Dr. Pullin has taught at Johnson C. Smith University as an Adjunct Professor of Chemistry. Some of his accomplishments at the University include creating a 3-year Sustainability Plan for the University, developing a Concept Paper and construction of an on-campus Sustainability Village, and development of courses in Sustainability, Environmental Chemistry and Special Topics in Chemistry. His research involved a collaboration with Davidson College’s Chemistry Department that was published on the topic of Air Quality, he also produced a CD for the National Science Foundation that focused on Energy Auditing and Conservation while serving as an Academic Advisor in the College of STEM. Dr. Pullin consulted with a low income community in the city and won a $10,000 grant from the City of Charlotte that focused on the implementation of an Energy Conservation Action Plan that would provide energy efficient products and advice to residents.

 

Dr. Pullin has won many awards. To name a few, he was selected for the Emerging Green Leader Award from the Pride Magazine for his work in the Environmental Arena in the City of Charlotte and Mecklenburg County; A Leader of Change Award-Wachovia Bank as a leader in minority business community; and he also received the President’s Award-100 Black Men of Charlotte for his work on the organization’s Executive Committee.

 

His life story is featured by the local television station WTVI’s 3D Project “Dreamers, Doers, Destiny” which inspires youth with the knowledge to pull them out of poverty. At present he is on the dissertation committees of doctoral students at UNC-Charlotte and Gardner-Webb University. He is also on the editorial board of an international STEM magazine located in Bangkok, Thailand.

 

In his free time Dr. Pullin loves to golf and read the autobiographies of famous leaders. He has one grandchild, Jax and two daughters; Mercedes and Lelani.
